Toxic Round Up

Every year, our region hosts the Toxic Round Up, where residents can bring hazardous waste, such as various cleaners, paint, used oil and gasoline. Most hazardous waste material is taken to the Swan Hills Treatment Centre for safe disposal; aerosols are sent to an Alberta-based recycling facility. Toxic Round Up is coordinated through Alberta Environment and Parks and administered by Alberta Recycling.

Environment Week

Environment Week is celebrated annually during the week of June 5 in Canada; it’s been celebrated in Alberta since 1972. Clean Air Day is included in Environment Week, on the Wednesday.

Environment Week celebrates Alberta’s environment with action projects that bring communities together for some learning and fun with a focus on easy things residents can do for the environment.

Historically, Alberta Recycling celebrates Environment Week by sharing a billion things Alberta has done for recycling.

Waste Reduction Week

Waste Reduction Week is a Canada-wide initiative that takes place annually in the third week of October. The Recycling Council of Alberta is the lead agency for promoting Waste Reduction Week in this province. During Waste Reduction Week businesses, schools and municipalities participate in numerous activities that educate residents about environmentally conscious choices to reduce waste and divert it from the landfill.
